Foods That Increase Your Libido

Can food fire up your sex drive? Researchers have spent time on this very topic and here are some of their findings.

CHOCOLATE

“Food of the gods!” Ah, heck yeah… the Mayans were on to something when they figured out that Chocolate increases sexual stamina. The Aztecs ruler Montezuma use chocolate to amp up his romantic trysts. A New York Times article says that chocolate’s aphrodisiac qualities can be linked to two chemicals, “One, tryptophan, is a building block of serotonin, a brain chemical involved in sexual arousal. The other, phenylethylamine, a stimulant related to amphetamine, is released in the brain when people fall in love.”

HONEY

If you’ve never thought honey was sexy then purchase a jar of homegrown honey, dip a spoon in, raise it up, and watch this amber goodness slowly drop back into the jar. It’s beautiful, sweet, sensual… ok, it can also be a sticky mess. Several sources online say honey is a natural way to boost testosterone and estrogen levels because it contains boron. It also is full of nitric oxide, which can increase blood flow. Ever hear of a HONEYmoon? No coincidence it’s tied to this naturally sweet aphrodisiac.

AVOCADO

We can thank the Savory Lotus for this story. “The avocado tree was called ahuacuatl or “testicle tree” by the Aztecs because of the way the fruit hangs in pairs.” Those visuals! Oh my!  Because the avocados are packed with nutrients it’s a great way to boost you up. Besides, guacamole, anyone?

HOT PEPPERS

Every wonder why you’re in the mood after eating something a little spicy? Well the heat in those peppers could be jump starting your blood flow thanks to capsaicin. According to Saludmovil.com, “when your cardiovascular system is kicked into high gear, your brain signals your body to release endorphins – just like during exercise and sex. From this process, scientists were able to deduce the correlation between spicy foods and sex drive.”

OYSTERS

If you’ve been skeptical about the effects of oysters on your sex drive then you might want to sit back because in 2005, scientist actually took this to the lab. The results: scallops are sexy! www.healthline.com says, “Research shared at a 2005 conference of the American Chemical Society that oysters, clams, and scallops contain compounds that raise testosterone and estrogen levels.A boost in hormone production translates into heightened sexual desire in many cases.” And there you have it, slurp those oysters with pride.

APPLES

Well, not just apples, although they do have a sinful past (we’re looking at you, Eve), but berries, cherries, onions, and dark-colored grapes, are rich in quercetin, or so says www.healthline.com. Why? Quercetin that helps promote good prostate and bladder health.

ALCOHOL

Duh, right… but there’s a fine line between being loosened up and being sauced. According to vinepair.com, two drinks is just about right for getting that blood flowing. If you want to really get it right, try red wine. It can cause the sex drive to be even more pronounced than other beverages.
